The BEAR Procedure
Dr. Tingstad prides himself on innovation. He is currently one of only a handful of orthopaedic surgeons west of the Rockies who offer the BEAR ACL procedure, an alternative to traditional ACL reconstruction.
With traditional reconstructions, a graft from another part of the patient’s body, or from a cadaver, is sutured between the torn ends of the ACL. The BEAR procedure does not require a graft; instead, it uses a bovine collagen implant to help a patient’s ACL heal naturally.
Since our first BEAR procedure in 2023, patient outcomes have been outstanding. Compared to traditional ACL reconstruction, BEAR patients reported a faster recovery and a more stable knee after the procedure. In the 1 to 3 years following the BEAR procedure, none of our patients have re-torn their ACL.
