Dr. Ed Tingstad

Board-Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon in Pullman, WA

Dr. Tingstad is board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine. He is fellowship-trained and holds a subspecialty certification in sports medicine. Since 2000, he has been practicing at Inland Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine Clinic in Pullman, WA, and Moscow, ID. Over the last three decades, he has helped thousands of patients improve their quality of life.

Outside of his time at Inland Orthopaedic, Dr. Tingstad serves as Medical Director for Pullman’s Regional High School Athletic Training Program. The program has a tremendous impact on local student health, providing a certified athletic trainer to four local school districts. In addition, Dr. Tingstad served as Chief Medical Officer and Chief of Surgical Staff for Pullman Regional Hospital from 2023 to 2025 and from 2002 to 2025, respectively.

Ed Tingstad, M.D., is also an Assistant Professor at the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine, a Principal Reviewer of the American Journal of Sports Medicine (AJSM), and a Washington State Delegate for the American Orthopaedic Society of Sports Medicine (AOSSM). Dr. Tingstad is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (FAAOS). He currently serves as the Head Team Physician and Medical Director for Washington State University, as well as a Clinical Instructor for the WWAMI Program at the University of Washington School of Medicine.

Washington State University Head Team Physician & Medical Director

Since 2000, Dr. Tingstad has served as the Head Orthopaedic Team Physician for Washington State University. In 2024, he transitioned into the dual role of Head Team Physician and Medical Director for the Washington State University Athletics Department.

As a Washington State alum and former football player, Dr. Tingstad has played an integral part in Cougar Athletics for years. Over his long tenure at WSU, Dr. Tingstad has cared for thousands of student-athletes. He has diagnosed and treated a wide range of athletes, from golfers to football players. Improving health outcomes for students is one of Dr. Tingstad’s top passions.

Areas of Expertise

Dr. Tingstad specializes in the operative and non-operative treatment of knee, shoulder, and elbow injuries. At his practice, he regularly performs over 300 surgeries per year. He also specializes in sports medicine, serving as the Head Team Physician for Washington State University.

Orthopaedic Research

Dr. Tingstad is involved in a wide variety of research, most notably dealing with knee injuries and surgical techniques. As part of the MARS (Multi-Center Revision Study) group, Dr. Tingstad has contributed to more than 30 publications exploring the Bridge-Enhanced ACL Restoration (BEAR) technique. Outside of his ACL work, Dr. Tingstad has published research about platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections, osteoarthritis, and total joint replacements.
